Description
Oleg Georgievich Grigoryev was a bantamweight boxer from the Soviet Union, who won the gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics. In the finale he defeated Italian Primo Zamparini, who won the silver.
Grigoryev was born in Moscow. He began boxing at the age of 13, training in Moscow at Trudovye Rezervy until 1961, and then at the Armed Forces sports society. Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR since 1960, Grigoryev was three-times European Champion; in 1959 he won silver medal of European Championship. He is also six-times USSR Champion. During his career as a boxer, he has won 176 fights and lost only 20.
Grigoryev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and the title "Prominent boxer of USSR". He graduated from Ivanovo Pedagogical Institute in 1967.
