Chris Murphy is a member of the Canadian rock band Sloan. Although born in Prince Edward Island, Murphy is commonly associated with Nova Scotia; like his bandmates, he currently resides in Toronto. He helped form the band with Jay Ferguson and is currently the band's bassist and lead singer, occasionally switching to drums or guitar. Murphy has written several Sloan songs that have been released as singles, including "Underwhelmed" from the album Smeared, "Coax Me" from Twice Removed, "G Turns to D" from One Chord to Another, "She Says What She Means" from Navy Blues, "The Other Man" from Pretty Together, and "The Rest of My Life" from Action Pact. In December 2005, Chris began hosting a show on CBC Radio 3 with Sloan bandmate Jay Ferguson. Their show was broadcast Saturdays and Sundays on Sirius Satellite Radio station. The show has been on hiatus since November 2006. Murphy has also been featured as a guest juror on the show Video on Trial. Murphy and his girlfriend, Rebecca Mendoza, have a son named Francisco, who was featured on Entertainment Tonight on December 7, 2007. The two also have another son named Santiago.
